Palm User Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Palm User Group , shortly PUG is - similar to a Linux User Group - a group of persons working on PalmOS - PDAs are interested (Personal Digital Assistant), and meet regularly. Although many Palm User Groups focus on systems with PalmOS, the interest of the “Palmians” is not necessarily limited to this operating system.

PUGs organize themselves independently and can be found in many cities and districts. There is no umbrella organization, but something like the “mouthpiece” of the scene. The website Nexave, which is the largest privately operated portal for PalmOS devices in Germany, could be described as such in the German area. On the occasion of CeBIT , Nexave organized the so-called PUM ( Palm User Meeting ) every year , a nationwide meeting of PUGs and those interested in Palm in Hanover .

With the takeover of Palm by Hewlett Packard, PalmOS has completely disappeared from the market. Today iOS (Apple), Android (Google) and Windows Phone (Microsoft) dominate the market for mobile gadgets, on smartphones and tablets. Many palm suergroups are therefore also no longer existent.

The Palmusergroup Mannheim opened up to the alternative systems many years ago and is now one of the largest PUGs in Germany with over 150 registered members.

The Palmusergroup Mannheim has changed its name and is now active as " PUG-Mannheim - Smartphones & More ". It always meets on the third Wednesday of the month and is directed by Peter Bartsch .
