Palmetto (symbol)
The palmetto , the freedom tree of the rebellious slaves of Santo Domingo , has been known since 1802 . The term stands for the palm tree that is depicted in the coat of arms and on the flag of Haiti . In the coat of arms this is framed by flags, guns, cannons and drums. On top of the palm is the red and blue Jacobin cap as a symbol of freedom.
