history

The Paltrock windmill in Schönewalde is located on a historic mill location. There is already knowledge from the 17th century that there was a windmill in Schönewalde at that time. One of the windmills here is said to have belonged to Mr. Denstedt's estate. This changed hands after the Thirty Years War . Later there were up to five post mills on the west side of the town of Schönewalde and a Dutch windmill in the east . The families Wille, Kleindienst, Weber and Puhlmann were named as owners.

The still existing mill was finally in 1815, first in Egsdorf at Baruth as windmill built and built. More than 120 years after it was commissioned, shortly before the Second World War in 1939, it was moved to Schönewalde by the miller Erich Weber. In the following year, this mill was converted into a Paltrock windmill and finally put into operation in 1941. They were initially driven either by an electric motor or wind power. In 1958, however, a thunderstorm damaged the mill's wings so severely that they could only be operated with electrical energy. Flour was still being painted in the mill until 1972, later only ground.

The Paltrock windmill remained in family ownership until 1980. Then the Weber family donated the mill to the town of Schönewalde, which in this way took over the technical monument. The mill, which has been extensively restored since 1992, is now operated sporadically as a foam mill. In 2012 it received new blinds. There is also a motor drive. It is used for grinding and crushing grain. It is put into operation at various events, such as the annual German Milling Day . Guided tours are offered on request.
