Pamela Vivian Kirkham, 16th Baroness Berners (born Williams , born September 30, 1929 ) is a British peeress , nurse and politician .

life and career

She is the older daughter of Harold Williams and Vera Ruby Tyrwhitt, 15th Baroness Berners (1901-1992). She attended Bredenbury Court School, then Stonar School in Wiltshire and Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford . In 1951 she became a state-approved nurse (SRN). In doing so, she followed the same career path as her mother.

When her mother died in 1992, her title of nobility, the Baroness Berners in Abeyance , fell between her and her younger sister Rosemary Pollock. Pamela requested the restoration of the title in her favor, whereupon this was awarded to her on June 30, 1995 as the 16th baroness. The title was associated with a seat in the House of Lords , which she took on the side of the Conservative Party . She gave her inaugural address on May 15, 1996.

She spoke up several times in the mid to late 1990s, most recently on October 13, 1999 on the Welfare Reform and Pensions Bill . She lost her seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . She did not run for any of the remaining seats. It is not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , so it is not available for a by-election to the House of Lords.

Marriage and offspring

She married Captain Michael Joseph Sperry Kirkham on March 1, 1952 , the son of Joseph William Kirkham. Together they had two sons and a daughter.

She lives in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire (as of 2003).
