Pančevac

The Pančevac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Панчевац ) is the oldest Serbian-language newspaper in today's Serbia , published in Pančevo .

history

The first edition appeared on April 13, 1869. The founder, owner and publisher was Jovan Pavlović, a 26-year-old teacher of Trgovačka škola (Business School) from Panschowa . The approval for the publication of a Serbian newspaper had to be obtained from the commandant's office in Timisoara , since Pancheva was still subordinate to the Viennese court chamber at the time it was founded . After the military border was closed, Panschowa was assigned to the Kingdom of Hungary. As one of the first Hungarian official acts, Jovan Pavlović was arrested in 1876 and sentenced to prison, and further publication of the Pančevac was prohibited. The editorial team worked underground and illegally until 1918. In 1919 the newspaper was then reissued. With the new owners Dušan and Duda Bošković, the editorial team was temporarily relocated to Novi Sad and renamed Vojvođanin . After the Second World War, the Pančevo Commune owned the newspaper. The newspaper has now been privatized and appears as a weekly newspaper with a circulation of 12,500 copies.
