The Panagia Chryseleousa ( Greek Παναγία Χρυσελεούσα ) is a church building of the Cypriot Orthodox Church in Lysos ( Paphos district ) on Cyprus .

history

The Panagia Chryseleousa was built in the 15th century under the crusader rule of the Frankish house of Lusignan in the Byzantine style, but with the inclusion of Gothic architectural elements. Presumably the church initially only served the needs of Franconian feudal lords under the Latin rite . In contrast to the older Byzantine architecture of Cyprus, the single-nave church with a suggested transept with a central crossing dome does not close with a semicircular apse, but with a three-sided choir with a fine Gothic tracery window in the east. The Franconian monastery church Panagia Stazousa in the east of the island shows a similar end of the choir . Over the southern and northern portals of the Panagia Chryseleousa there are Franconian coats of arms of the Gourry and Neville families as well as a Gothic tracery frieze on the north side, probably newly installed as a spoiler .

At the beginning of the 20th century, the west wall of the church was laid down and an extension was placed in front of the church.
