The Panamint Range is a short, wild broken clod mountain range on the northern edge of the Mojave Desert in southeastern California in the southwestern United States . The mountain range runs for approximately 160 kilometers in a north-south direction through Inyo County , defining the western edge of Death Valley and separating it from the Panamint Valley further west . The highest mountain is Telescope Peak with a height of 3368 meters. Most of the chain is in the western part of Death Valley National Park . From some of the peaks of the Panamint Range you can see both Mount Whitney , the highest mountain in the continental 48 states , and Death Valley . This means that from these parts of the mountain range you can see both the deepest and the highest point in the continental USA.

The Panamint Range lies on the southwestern edge of the Great Basin .
