Pangandaran

Pangandaran Beach

Pangandaran is a bathing and fishing town on the south coast of Java and belongs to the Jawa Barat province . It is mainly visited by Javanese from Bandung or Yogyakarta , but is also a popular destination for international backpackers . The place is located on a peninsula, which is bordered in the south by a small national park.

Pangandaran was badly damaged by a tsunami following an earthquake off the island of Java on July 17, 2006 . The quake had a magnitude of 7.7 and its center 180 km off the coast of Pangandaran. Waves up to 3.3 meters high rolled towards the coast.
