Pangu party

The Pangu Party (also Papua and Niugini Union Pati) is a political party in Papua New Guinea .

The Pangu Party was founded in 1967 by Michael Somare , who later became the first Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. She was from 1975 to 1980 and from 1982 to 1985 ruling party under Somare as Prime Minister. From 1988 to 1992 a coalition government led by the Pangu Party ruled under Rabbie Namaliu , who had assumed the chairmanship in 1975. Somare is today chairman of the National Alliance Party .

In the 2002 general election, the party won 6 out of 109 seats and became a member of Michael Somare's governing coalition. After the parliamentary elections of 2007, in which Pangu won 5 seats, she continued her participation in the new Somares coalition. In the parliamentary election of 2012 she could only win one seat.
