National Alliance Party

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Alliance Party is a party in Papua New Guinea . It was founded in 1995 by Bernard Narokobi , Moi Avei , Bart Philemon and Masket Iangalio , who called on Michael Somare to take over the chairmanship of the party after he was sacked as leader of the Pangu Party . In the elections to the parliament of Papua New Guinea in June 2002, she won 19 out of 109 seats. As the strongest party, it was tasked with forming a government.

The government led by the National Alliance Party from 2002 to 2007 was the first government since independence in 1975 to remain in office for a full term. All previous governments had been overthrown by motions of censure before their term of office expired . In 2006, the co-founder of the National Alliance Party, Bart Philemon, tried to replace Somare as party leader. Failing to do this, Philemon went into the opposition as leader of the New Generation Party after Somares won the election . In the parliamentary elections in 2007, the National Alliance Party was able to improve its result and was again the strongest party with 27 seats. Michael Somare became leader of a coalition government made up of various parties and 13 independent MPs.
