The Panieńskie Skały in Kraków are a nature reserve in the Wolski Forest in the Wola Justowska district .
history
The nature reserve was established in 1953 on limestone cliffs overgrown with mixed forest in the southern foothills of the Kraków-Czestochowa Jura . The area belonged to the Norbertanerinnenkloster . The name of the nature reserve is derived from this, which can be translated as "Jungfrauenfelsen". According to legend, the nuns of the monastery are said to have hidden from the Tatars here during the Mongol storm in 1241 . When the Tatars tracked down the nuns, they are said to have either frozen to rocks or buried by the rocks, so that the nuns kept their virginity.
location
Above the nature reserve there is the Piłsudski hill and the zoo . The villa district Wola Justowska is located below the nature reserve. The nature reserve can be reached via a yellow hiking trail.
