Piłsudski Hill
The Piłsudski Hill ( Polish copy Piłsudskiego ) in Krakow was raised in 1934-1937 in honor of the Polish national hero Marshal Józef Piłsudski . It is located in the Wolski Forest in the west of the city. Its height is 35 meters and its diameter is 111 meters. It is located on the 358 meter high Sowiniec mountain , so its peak is 393.6 meters above sea level. d. Kronstadt level . From it there is another panoramic view of the surrounding area to the High Tatras in the south.
history
Construction of the hill began on the 20th anniversary of the march of the Piłsudskis legions from Kraków to the Russian Empire at the beginning of the First World War. After the Marshal's death, it was decided to name the hill after him. In 1941, Hans Frank ordered the hill to be destroyed. However, the execution of the command failed. The Stalinists also tried to clear the hill. In 1953 the hill was damaged by tanks. From the 1980s, however, it was restored again.
