Panmesopotamism

The Panmesopotamismus describes initiated by Christian dignitaries and intellectuals political movement of Assyrismus which aims to ethnically and culturally-founded nation building.

She claims a common origin of parts of the population, especially Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. These reasons on the Syro- Mesopotamian empires of antiquity : Sumerians , Chaldeans , Babylonians , Assyrians , Syrians and Phoenicians .

In addition, a common culture is assumed that stems from a shared Christian tradition. The population groups for whom Panmesopotamism is claimed belong to the following churches:

  1. Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and All of the East
  2. Syrian Catholic Church of Antioch and All of the East
  3. Syrian-Maronite Church of Antioch
  4. Old Holy Apostolic Church of the East
  5. Assyrian Church of the East
  6. Chaldean Catholic Church
  7. Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Antioch
  8. Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch
  9. various evangelical congregations in Syria , Lebanon , Iraq and Iran .

Pan-Mesopotamism turns against an assimilation of this people into an Arab-Muslim culture. In a broader perspective, it aims at the development of a Mesopotamian nation .
