Panzer Dragoon ( Japanese パ ン ツ ァ ー ド ラ グ ー ン , Pantsā Doragūn ) is a rail shooter that was released in 1995 by the Sega company for the Sega Saturn . The game was developed by Team Andromeda and was one of the first shooters with real-time 3D graphics. The rail shooter principle with a fixed flight route was kept quite simple. The development costs of an estimated $ 3 million were substantial at the time and were among other things. a. invested in an orchestral soundtrack and elaborate CGI cutscenes. Implementation for the PC followed a year later.
In 2006 a port of the first Dragoon tank appeared for the PlayStation 2 under the Sega Ages label .
A remake of the first part was released on March 26, 2020 for Nintendo Switch.
Saturn successor
Also a year later, the successor title Panzer Dragoon II for Saturn appeared, which brought some graphic improvements and playful innovations with it. In the course of the game, the dragon undergoes a transformation from a non-flightable dragon pup to a heavily armored giant lizard. As in the predecessor, you cannot explore the levels yourself because the dragon "knows the way". However, this time there are branches that bring a little more freedom into the game. Depending on which turn you choose and how well you do, the kite develops differently. The game offers oversized bosses, the new "Berserk attack", which hits all targets in the area and Pandora's box. The latter is available after completing the game and contains a large amount of additional content and setting options.

Panzer Dragoon Mini ( Japanese パ ン ツ ァ ー ド ラ グ ー ン MINI ) is a game gear game that was published in Japan on November 22, 1996 as an offshoot of the Panzer Dragoon series by Sega.

Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn RPG)
Panzer Dragoon Saga ( Japanese AZEL - パ ン ツ ァ ー ド ラ グ ー ン RPG- ) was also developed by Team Andromeda and was released on four CD-ROMs in 1998 for the Sega Saturn . It is the third episode in the Panzer Dragoon series on a stationary game console and is the first game in this series to be a computer role-playing game rather than a rail shooter . With a total print run of almost 100,000 copies worldwide, it is one of the most sought-after and rarest Sega-Saturn titles today. It was published as one of the last titles for the Sega Saturn in Europe with an edition of 5000 copies. It was approved by the USK for ages 12 and up.
Tank Dragoon Orta (Xbox)
After Sega's withdrawal from the video game hardware market, Panzer Dragoon Orta (2002) is an exclusive development for the Microsoft Xbox console , the game principle of which is based on the origins of the series. It was developed by the company Smilebit .
