Armored makers were called generally the manufacturer of armor in the Middle Ages and the early modern period . Tank makers belonged to the craftsmen and were organized in guilds .

One differentiates the tank makers among other things after Plattner and Sarwürker / Sarworter :

  • Plattner presented plate armor ago, a body armor made of metal plates, which were connected with joints to each other and was connected with leather straps to the body to be protected and at the appropriate undergarments.
  • Sarwürker / Sarworter produced chain armor , body protection made of chain mesh, a composite of small riveted metal rings. The term "Sarwürker" comes from the southern German, the name "Sarworter" from the Cologne area.
  • Harness sweeps grinded and polished the plate armor made by armor, also known as armor . The profession is very similar to that of the sword sweeper .
