The Kubinka Tank Museum is a Russian military museum in Kubinka near Moscow .

With its collection of tanks and other armored vehicles , it is one of the largest museums of its kind in the world.

The museum, which opened on September 10, 1978, shows numerous internationally known tanks from the First and Second World Wars and the Cold War . The collection includes vehicles from twelve countries and a total of 290 tanks between five and 188 tons . Artillery pieces , reconnaissance tanks and a wide range of other military equipment are also on display. There are 129 exhibits of Soviet or Russian origin, including a large number of prototypes .

The US tanks on display were obtained during the Second World War under the conditions of the loan and lease law , while the tanks of the Axis powers were captured during combat or after the end of the war. For example, the last copy of the German "super tank" of the Maus type and the last known copy of the spherical tank are on display.

Other objects from other countries were acquired in exchange for Soviet military equipment. For a long time, the museum operated the Military Intelligence Service (GRU) , which extensively tested the tank models.

In 2000, all vehicles were painted according to their previous original paint scheme and thus have their historical appearance again.
