The car. 13 (also machine gun vehicles) was introduced by the Reichswehr as the first armored car after the First World War ; By 1935, 147 of these lightly armored vehicles had been taken over into the inventory. The car. 13 was based on the Adler Standard 6 civilian car . Although the Kfz. 13 was equipped with all-wheel drive, the vehicle had poor off-road mobility. The unarmed version, the vehicle used as a radio vehicle. 14 , was equipped with a radio instead of the machine gun.
The vehicle was used in the attack on Poland and in the western campaign in 1940 . It was retired from active service in 1941 and only used for training purposes.
