The mega-park is a mixture of beer garden and open-air large-capacity discotheque and is located on the island of Mallorca at Platja de Palma , an approximately eight kilometer long sandy beach, which is located south-east of the island's capital, Palma . The mega-park is located at the level of Balneario 5 or Ballermann 5 directly on the promenade.

history

The location was opened on May 22nd, 2000 by the Majorcan discotheque chain Grupo Cursach Ocio , which also operates the Riu Palace , BCM Planet Dance , Tito's and the Asadito restaurant on Playa de Palma. Numerous well-known stars of the hit and pop scene appeared at the opening (including DJ Ötzi ). The mega-park was operated successfully from 2000 to 2004. Especially free beer and free sangria in the morning between 11 a.m. and 12 noon attracted many guests. In addition, the many appearances by the Mallorca stars ( Mickie Krause , Markus Becker , Jürgen Drews , Möhre , B3 , Olaf Henning , Guildo Horn and others) were popular with the audience.

In 2003, the underground large-capacity disco MegArena was opened under the Mega Park . In the summer of 2004 it was closed. The MegArena usually opened around 9 p.m. and received a large number of guests when the mega-park above the MegArena had to stop the music at midnight.

On September 15, 2004, the mega-park in its original form was closed because, according to the local press, there was no concession for a disco, but only for a dining restaurant. They tried to keep the party going for the rest of the season with the Don Quixote that was added in August. In the winter of 2004/2005, the former mega-park was demolished and replaced by a new building modeled on a Gothic cathedral. The underground MegArena was retained. At the beginning of the 2006 season, the government of the Balearic Islands prohibited the playing of loud music in open-air beer gardens, which is a major turning point for the mega-park.

For the 2008 season, the mega-park was rebuilt or expanded again. The original barrack of Don Quixote Ballermann was demolished and replaced by another building wall in the style of a cathedral. The new Don Quixote was housed in it, together with a bar area above which the Bierkaiser logo was applied several times, probably as a reference to or corruption of the Bierkönig , a restaurant belonging to the competition that is located very close. As part of these renovations, a new sunken lagoon-like pool was installed in which guests can swim during the day. The new Royal Suite was added in winter 2008 and is located under the Megapark. This lounge served as a live music club in a stylish setting. Here were, among others, Nino de Angelo , Bernard Butler , Nik P. or Marita Köllner on. At the beginning of the 2010 season, the “Royal Suite” was renamed “Prince”.

In 2014, some structural changes were made again, such as B. the Prive Lounge, which was run by "It-Girl" Rebecca Kratz. In addition, a VIP lounge (called "FirstFloor") was built above the area of the former MegaInn, which could be reached via an escalator.

For the 2015 season, the areas on the first floor were expanded (enlarged and connected by bridges). So you could now take a tour through the different areas of the MegaPark. The video wall at the mega-park was dismantled. A video cube (as known from football stadiums) was installed in the middle of the mega-park above the open-air area. The MegArena was also modernized and, like the “FirstFloor”, could now be reached via escalators. On June 26th, 2015 the official Mega-Park Compilation was released, which also contains music from the “Megapark Allstars”.

On February 27, 2017, the owner of the Megapark, Bartolomé Cursach, was arrested for corruption. On April 18, 2018, he was released on payment of a bail of one million euros. On March 13, 2018, Mega-Park and Grupo Cursach filed for "pre-insolvency" proceedings and applied for bankruptcy protection. On April 6, 2018, the municipality of Palma closed the first floor of the mega-park and parts of the ground floor because the renovations had been carried out illegally since 2005. The number of visitors to the mega-park was set at 1056.
