Life

Concia studied sport at the Istituto Superiore di Educazione Fisica (ISEF) in L'Aquila . After her studies she worked as a fitness trainer and tennis teacher. She moved to Rome and was initially politically active in the Communist Party of Italy in the 1980s . From this emerged the Democratici di Sinistra (Left Democrats) in 1991 and the Partito Democratico in 2007 , to which it has belonged ever since. In the parliamentary elections in 2008 Concia was elected to the Camera dei deputati and was a member of the Legal Committee.

In the 2013 parliamentary election , she ran for the Senate , but missed entry to third place on the list of her party in Abruzzo and consequently left parliament. She then worked for the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Germany (ITKAM) in Frankfurt. In 2015 she was appointed to the supervisory board of Firenze Fiera , the operating company of the city's own exhibition and congress halls. From February 2017 to July 2018 Concia was assessora for the city of Florence for international relations, trade fairs, city marketing and tourism.

In 2011, Concia entered into a registered civil partnership with the German criminologist Ricarda Trautmann in Frankfurt . There was no comparable legal institution in Italy at the time, which is why the Tribunale di Roma refused to recognize the couple. Same-sex civil partnership has also been legally recognized in Italy since 2016.
