Paolo Cascini

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paolo Cascini is an Italian mathematician who studies algebraic geometry .

Cascini studied at the University of Florence with a master's degree in 2000. He received his doctorate in 2004 under Fjodor Bogomolow at the Courant Institute of New York University (On the Subsheaves of the Cotangent Bundles). There he received his master’s degree in 2002. In 2004 he became Visiting Assistant Professor and in 2007 Assistant Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara . He is a professor at Imperial College London .

He deals with the program of minimal models in the birational classification of higher dimensional algebraic varieties. With Christopher Hacon , James McKernan, and Caucher Birkar , he made advances in the classification of general-type varieties in the Minimal Model Program, for which all four received the AMS EH Moore Research Article Prize in 2016. He also deals with Kähler manifolds.

In 2008 he was a Sloan Research Fellow. In 2005 he received the Wilhelm Magnus Prize from the Courant Institute.
