Paolo Lugli (* 1956 in Carpi ) is an Italian scientist in the field of nanoelectronics and molecular electronics .

Lugli graduated from the University of Modena with a degree in physics , which he graduated in 1979. He then studied electrical engineering at Colorado State University . In 1982 he obtained a Master of Science there , and in 1985 a Ph.D. Subsequently, Lugli returned to Italy to initially work as an assistant in the physics department at the University of Modena. In 1988 he moved to the Faculty of Engineering at the Tor Vergata University in Rome as an associate professor , where he was given a full professorship in optoelectronics in 1993 . In 2002 he was appointed to the chair for nanoelectronics at the Technical University of Munich . From 2014 to 2016, Lugli was Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology . He has been working at the Free University of Bozen since 2017 , where he is the rector.

Lugli's particular research interests include the simulation of electronic and optoelectronic components, the design of broadband optical networks, the study of the electronic and optoelectronic properties of organic and inorganic nanostructures and the electro-optical characterization of semiconductor components.
