Stremmewiese

Stremmewiese is an island in the Havel River in the town of Rathenow . It is formed by the main arm of the river and the tributary Stremme or Rathenower Stremme and is separated from the northern neighboring island of Bauernwiese by another river.

history

In the Schmettauschen map series, the southern castle wall can be seen as a mountain wall on the island of Haus Wiese

In the area of the Stremmewiese at the southern angle between the main arm of the Havel and the Stremme there is said to have been a Slavic castle wall . In the Schmettauschen map series , a “mountain wall” is recorded on the island that was then called “Haus Wiese”. In 1956, yellowish, mostly undecorated ceramics were found in the area, which occasionally show fleeting comb line patterns. They have been dated to the 7th to 9th centuries. Speculations that the “Berg Wall” could have been the remains of the first Ascanian castle in Rathenow are not considered to be obvious. The area of the former castle ramparts was greatly changed in the 19th century by the construction of a brick factory and is no longer recognizable. The area is designated under number 51093 as "Settlement Slavic Middle Ages, Castle Slavic Middle Ages, Settlement German Middle Ages" as a ground monument .

A second Slavic castle wall, the castle stables of which can still be clearly seen opposite, the Stremmewiese castle wall , is located further north on the island. The monument number 50157 is assigned to this ground monument "Settlement Slavic Middle Ages, Castle Wall Slavic Middle Ages".
