Paolo Saglietto

Paolo Saglietto (born March 20, 1924 in Imperia , † June 12, 1973 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker .

Life

Saglietto attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and has dedicated himself to documentary film from the very beginning. He has received numerous awards for his work, including a. 1970 with the Osella d'Argento and 1968 and 1971 with the silver ribbon (for the work Il barbaro dedicated to the writer Beppe Fenoglio ).

In 1953 he had founded his own production company, “Chimo Film”, which was followed in 1957 by “Riviera Film”. With the latter, he initially financed his only full-length film, Il pupo dal KO , which is tailored to a children's audience, with his son Marco among the numerous amateur actors; However, the work was rarely seen in cinemas due to poor distribution structures. He later turned back to his documentary work. From 1965, with the "Corona Cinematografica" and the support of Pier Paolo Pasolini, he was able to deliver financially better-funded works.

Saglietto died at the age of only 49.
