Paolo Serpi

Paolo Serpi (* 1958 in Rome ) is an Italian diplomat who has been ambassador to Dublin since January 19, 2017 .

Life

Serpi closed in 1981 to study law at the University of La Sapienza from. In 1983 he entered the foreign service and was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome until 1987. From 1987 to 1989 he worked in the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations Office in Geneva , from 1994 to 1996 in the Economic Department, and in 1997 he moved to the EU in Brussels. In 1999 he was appointed First Class Counselor. After a further promotion to the First Class Legation Council in 2001, he worked in Washington, DC in the European Union Department until 2008 . He was then Special Representative for Turkmenistan and Coordinator for Central Asia and Energy for one year .

From December 1, 2010 to April 2015, he was ambassador to Caracas ( Venezuela ), after which he worked for two years in the Caribbean Department and Department III Sub-Saharan Africa . From 2017 to 2018 he held the temporary seat of Italy on the United Nations Security Council . From 2016 he reports directly to Caterina Bertolini , Director General for Globalization and Global Affairs and Special Envoy for the Ministry for the Caribbean. He has been Ambassador to Dublin ( Ireland ) since January 22, 2018 .

In 2010 he received the Commendatore dell ' Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana award .
