Paolo Soprani (* 1844 ; † 1918 ) was an Italian instrument maker.

In 1863 he founded the first “Accordion” factory in Italy in the province of Ancona . It is said that he acquired an early Cyrill Demian instrument from a pilgrim who brought it with him on his pilgrimage to Loreto .

A replica of the instrument is available in the museum in Castelfidardo . The diatonic instruments built by Paolo Soprani were called first armonica and then fisarmonica .

Instrument making

The company founded by Soprani still builds and sells accordions under the company name "Paolo Soprani".
