Papa Owusu-Ankomah (born April 27, 1957 , Sekondi , Ghana) is a politician, university professor and lawyer in Ghana . He is a member of parliament and was Minister for Education, Science and Sport under President John Agyekum Kufuor until July 2007. Dominic Fobih was succeeded in office . Ankomah resigned from office in order to stand as a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the primary elections for the presidential nominations.

Owusu-Ankomah comes from Dixicove, Ahanta West district. Between 1969 and 1976 he attended the Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast , where he completed his GCE A-Level. Immediately after graduating in 1976, he enrolled at the University of Ghana in Legon, a district of Accra . In 1979 he completed his studies here with an LL.B. (Hons.) He attended law school courses in Accra and was admitted to the bar in 1981 as a barrister .

Career

Between 1981 and 2000 he worked for various law firms in Ghana. He worked for the law firm Secondi / Takoradi City Solicitor and as a partner in the law firm Owusu-Ankomah. He also worked for Amanquah Co. Consulting Associate and Ghartey Ghartey Law Firm in Takoradi.

He taught law at the Takoradi Polytechnic in Takoradi .

In 2001 he became deputy leader of the majority party in the parliament of Ghana and deputy minister for government affairs ( Government Business ) during the first term of President Kufuor . Between August 2001 and September 2001 he was Minister for Youth and Sport. In October 2001 he became parliamentary leader of the majority party and minister for parliamentary affairs. He resigned from this position in March 2003 to become Minister of Justice and Attorney General in April 2003, making him the President's chief legal adviser. During the reshuffle of the government in the second term of President Kufuor in 2005, Owusu Ankomah moved to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports as Minister. He voluntarily resigned this office in July 2007 in order to have her elected internally as a candidate for his party's 2008 presidential election.
