Parrot tongs

use

The parrot tongs are special tongs for tilers to break out holes in tiles . It is thus possible to nibble out holes from the edge of the tile or to widen the hole after knocking out a small hole in the interior of the tile using a tile hammer .

handling

If there is a hole on the edge of the tile, the size is marked on the workpiece and the pliers are placed with the upper part of the parrot's beak on the glaze side and a small piece of the tile is broken by pressing the handles together. Now a small piece is missing in the tile. After opening the tongs, the fragments fall to the floor and the next particle can be broken off.

In the case of a hole in the inner surface of a tile, a hole about one centimeter in diameter must first be punched or drilled into the workpiece with a tile hammer or drill core. Then the upper parrot cheek can be inserted into the hole from below and broken out piece by piece downwards.
