Papanice

Papanice is a part of the municipality of Crotone . In 2011 it had 3,456 inhabitants.

Location and dates

Papanice borders the municipality of Scandale to the north, the municipality of Cutro to the west and south and the town of Crotone to the east , from whose city center it is 11.5 km away. The place is on the foothills of the Colline del Marchesato at an altitude of 156 m above sea level. NHN .

history

Until the administrative reform under Gioacchino Murat , Papanice was an independent municipality until 1806. It was founded on April 2, 1406 by the Sulco family. The economic focus of the place was the cultivation of durum wheat . Agriculture shaped working life until the 1960s; today only 8% of the population work in this area.
