Paralia Episkopis ( Greek Παραλία Επισκοπής , Beach of Episkopi ') is a beach in the village of Episkopi on the north coast of the Greek island of Crete .

Geographical location

The beach is located between Rethymno and Chania in the northwest of Crete and stretches for eleven kilometers to the west as far as Georgioupoli .

description

Unlike other beaches in Crete, which are known for their fine pebbles, Episkopi is a sandy beach. It is one of the cleanest and most untouched stretches of coast on Crete's north coast. Places with strong surf alternate with shallow sections.

Surfers and kite surfers can be found in the rougher places, families with children there where there is less surf. The beach is also lined with numerous bars and taverns that offer traditional food and cold drinks during the day and in the evening.

The area around Episkopistrand offers several other tourist attractions. This includes Crete's only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas , which is a few minutes' drive from the beach. Furthermore, the mountain village Argyroupoli is nearby, which offers its visitors historical archaeological sites.

Access

From the capital of the island, Heraklion , you drive about 100 kilometers along the coast to Episkopi. The journey takes around an hour and a half. Episkopi beach can be reached from numerous tourist hotels and holiday complexes.
