parallel
A parallel (from the Greek παράλληλος parállelos "next to each other" - composed of παρὰ parà "at", "next to" and ἀλλήλων allḗlon "each other", "mutually") is:
- in geometry one of two straight lines that lie in one plane and do not intersect, see parallelism (geometry)
- a similarity in behavior or facts ("historical parallel")
- in music a shift in pitch, see parallel (music)
- especially in music theory a relationship between keys, see parallel key
- also a relationship between triads in music theory, see parallel sound
- Parallel (military) , trenches at the same distance from the fortress
