Paranthan ( Tamil : பரந்தன் Parantaṉ [ ˈpaɾʌn̪d̪ən ], Sinhala : පරන්තන් Parantan [ ˈparan̪d̪an ]) is a place in the Kilinochchi district in the northern province of Sri Lanka .

Paranthan is located at the intersection of the main A9 Kandy - Jaffna road with the A35, 6 kilometers north of Kilinochchi and 12 kilometers south of the Elephant Pass .

The place is located in an area that was fought over by the LTTE and government troops in the Sri Lankan civil war (1983-2009) . The strategic intersection of Paranthan has been attacked several times and captured by various factions (in the early 1990s by the LTTE, in 1996 by the government troops , in 1999 by the LTTE, in early January 2009 by the government troops).

Before the Civil War, Paranthan Chemical Company Limited had a chemical factory in Paranthan .
