Irina Wladlenowna Pantajewa ( Russian Ири́на Владле́новна Панта́ева ; born October 31, 1967 in Ulan-Ude ) is a Russian photo model and an actress from the Buryat ethnic minority in Siberia .

Life

She received her first major engagement from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel in the early 1990s , after which she worked as a catwalk model at haute couture shows for designers such as Christian Dior , Gianni Versace or Calvin Klein , Donna Karan and Vivienne Westwood . Pantajewa was cover girl of Vogue several times and in 1998 the first Asian model in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

In 1998 she published her autobiography Siberian Dream , which was published in Germany in 1999 as Mein Weg auf dem Catwalzen der Welt . This resulted in a documentary of the same name, which was awarded a Cine Golden Eagle Award in 2004.

As an actress, Pantajewa has appeared in television series and feature films, including the film adaptation of So Far Your Feet (2001), in which she plays the shaman's daughter Irina , who meets Clemens Forell on his escape. As early as 1997, Irina Pantajewa could be admired on TV in the fantasy action adventure Mortal Kombat 2 - Annihilation in the role of Shao Khan's decoy Jade. In 2003 Irina Pantajewa took part in a casting for the theater play Jewtopia , which is running successfully in Los Angeles , and was selected for a New York performance for the role of Rachel Kahn . The off-Broadway comedy opened on October 21, 2004 at the Westside Theater , where it ran through April 29, 2007.

Irina Pantajewa is married to the Latvian photographer Roland Levin, whom she met in Moscow in 1988. They have two sons. Today she designs her own Irina jewelry collection in New York .
