Paraphe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Paraphe ( Middle French modification of Gr. Παραγράφειν [paragráphein] "to write down"; see also Paragraph ) is a name sign or a name stamp shortened to a few characters ( initials ) . Such an abbreviation (in contrast to the signature ) usually does not have enough features to be able to serve as a secure authentication feature.

In the case of contracts that consist of several sheets, the individual sheets are signed (initialed) with their initials by those who sign the contract as a whole , so that no sheets can be subsequently exchanged.

The provisional determination of a contract text is also referred to as initialing , since the contracting parties sign the contract text with their initials . International treaties are usually initialed first by government representatives of the countries involved before they are put into effect by ratification .
