Parascyllium elongatum is a species of shark belonging tothe collar carpet shark family . The species was only in 2008 means of a copy described that in the stomach of a captive in 50 meters depth off the west coast of Australia tope ( Galeorhinus galeus was).

features

The holotype, a female, was 42.1 centimeters long. Parascyllium elongatum differs from other species of the genus Parascyllium by its particularly slender, almost eel-like body, the body height is only about 5.5% of the body length, the very small head, which is less than 13% of the body length and the small eyes, whose diameter reaches only 8% of the head length. The pectoral and dorsal fins are small, the low dorsal fins have rounded tips. Parascyllium elongatum is gray in color. There are dark bands on the sides, separated by diagonal rows of white dots.

distribution and habitat

Parascyllium elongatum is currently only known from the west coast of Australia ( Western Australia ) and so far only from a single specimen.

Way of life

There is no information about the way of life of the species. It is likely to lay eggs ( oviparous ) and feed on small fish and invertebrates.

Relationship to people

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as “data deficient” on its list of endangered species according to the missing data.
