history

The place is first mentioned in the 10th century as Thunhem . Later names are Tunnum (1344), Tynnum (1420) and Tunum (1491). The current spelling has been in use since 1585. The place name is derived from the old Frisian word tūn (fence, fenced field). Thunum therefore means fenced home .

Thunum was an independent municipality, which in 1972 was combined with Osteraccum , Mamburg and Stedesdorf to form the municipality of Stedesdorf.

Attractions

The St. Marien Church is worth seeing . It goes back to a building from the 13th century. Only the belfry of the closed type standing apart from the church has been preserved from this building. The current church was built in 1842. The grave slab of Chief Edo Reentzen, who died in 1394, was attached to the bell tower from the previous building . In addition, two oil paintings from the 17th century and two death shields from the Glan family were taken over. The two epitaphs are dedicated to Freiherr von Glan († 1718) and Isabella von Glan († 1771).
