Mamburg is a 7.31 square kilometer district of the municipality of Stedesdorf in the East Frisian district of Wittmund . The scattered settlement is three kilometers east of Esens and about 1.2 kilometers west-northwest of Stedesdorf at an altitude of two to 3.3 meters above sea level.

The place probably goes back to a castle that no longer exists today, which was first mentioned in 1473 as Mammegheborch . Later names are Mamborch (1570) and Mamborgh (1670). The current spelling has been used since 1819. The place name is a combination of the nickname Mamme and Burg.

Mamburg was an independent municipality that was combined with Osteraccum , Thunum and Stedesdorf to form the municipality of Stedesdorf in 1972 .
