The Parco Museo Ferroviario is operated by the local transport company ATAC (Azienda per i Trasporti Autoferrotranviari del Comune di Roma). It is a railway museum with numerous vehicles from the company's predecessor operations. It is located in the Roma Porta San Paolo train station on the Roma Porta San Paolo – Cristoforo Colombo line to Lido di Ostia and was inaugurated on September 18, 2004 in connection with the first White Night in the capital, Rome .

Exhibits

The museum primarily shows local transport vehicles that were in use in Rome and the surrounding area. They come from predecessor companies from which the ATAC emerged. These include:

  • The railway company Società Tramvie e Ferrovie Elettriche, founded in 1899, the Roma STFER;
  • SEFI, which operated the Roma Porta San Paolo – Cristoforo Colombo (Lido di Ostia) railway;
  • SFV, which operated the Rome – San Cesareo railway ;
  • Società Romana Ferrovie del Nord (SRFN), which operated the Roma Flaminio – Viterbo railway ;
  • Azienda Consortile Transporti Laziali (Acotral), a predecessor of Metropolitana di Roma SpA ;
  • COTRAL, also a predecessor of Metropolitana di Roma SpA ;
  • MetRo . The Metropolitana di Roma SpA operated under this name for a while.

In addition to historical items from rail operations, the following are on display:

  • Tram car 70, built 1912 (decommissioned: 1980)
  • Tram 404 from 1939 (decommissioned: 1980)
  • Locomotive 1 from 1915, built for the Rome – Genazzano railway line
  • Locomotive 5 on the Rome – Ostia railway line
  • Electric multiple unit ECD 21, built in 1931 for the Società Romana Ferrovie del Nord (SRFN), used on the Rome Flaminio – Piazza del Popolo – Viterbo railway line. The railcar carried the third class and a luggage compartment.

The museum is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Access is via the western side platform of Porta San Paolo train station. There is no entrance fee, but access is only possible with a valid ticket (02.2017: at least a single city ticket for € 1.50).
