The Parco degli Acquedotti , German Park of aqueducts , and Parco dei 7 Acquedotti , German Park of the seven aqueducts , is a 240,000 square meters of green space in Munizipio VII of Rome , which the Regional Park of Appia Antica , German Regional Park Via Appia Antica heard . The name is derived from the remains of seven Roman aqueducts that are on the site.
history
The park was designated as green space for the first time in the structure plan of 1965 and was expropriated and freed from informal settlements in the 1970s . Although the plan was to renovate the structural remains of the aqueducts after the site had been cleared, everything stayed the same for the time being and new informal settlements were built again. In 1986, given the poor condition of the remains and the threat of overbuilding, the citizens' initiative Comitato per la salvaguardia del Parco degli Acquedotti e di Roma Vecchia , the German association for the protection of the Parco degli Acquedotti and ancient Rome , was founded. With the support of some intellectuals, the citizens' initiative achieved that the park was incorporated into the Parco regional dell'Appia antica in 1988. In 2011 the Marrana Mariana was refurbished .
