Parectopa robiniella , also known as black locust leaf bag butterfly called, is a small butterfly of the family of moths (Gracillariidae).

features

The front wings of the moths are dark brown in color with white transverse bands. The rear of the forewings is light beige. The rear wings are colored light beige and have a dark longitudinal line that runs not far from the wing leading edge. The wingspan is about 5 mm. The head is hairy white. The white legs have dark bands. At rest the legs are spread apart and the front wings form a roof.

distribution

Parectopa robiniella is native to the Nearctic . The species was introduced into Europe around 1970. It spread north from Italy and reached Ticino in 1971 . Their distribution area in Europe extends essentially over Central Europe. The species is not yet represented in the British Isles, Scandinavia and the extreme south of Europe.

Way of life

The species forms up to three generations per year. The butterflies fly from late May / early June. The species specializes in the common black locust ( Robinia pseudacacia ) as a host plant, on the upper side of which the caterpillars mine . To pupate, they form an elongated, white web on the underside of the leaf.
