The Park Bridge , also known colloquially as the Park Bridge Klein Glienicke , is located on the edge of the Babelsberg district of Potsdam . It spans the Teltow Canal , connects the districts of Klein Glienicke and Babelsberg and is part of Lankestrasse. In addition, the bridge offers further access to the Babelsberg Park .

history

In 1902 a pedestrian bridge was built over the Teltow Canal . This bridge was given to Kaiser Wilhelm II as a compensation for the land needed to build the canal, which he had given up. It was considered the most beautiful bridge over the entire Teltow Canal.

The bridge was destroyed at the end of the Second World War, but quickly rebuilt as a temporary solution in the form of a simple girder bridge. With the establishment of the border installations in connection with the construction of the wall in 1961, the park bridge became a border control point and Klein Glienicke became a restricted area.

With the fall of the wall , the bridge was opened to traffic again. Since the bridge is very narrow, it was necessary to set up a set of traffic lights to enable individual traffic.
