Parliamentary and presidential elections in Paraguay 2018

The parliamentary and presidential elections in Paraguay 2018 took place on April 22, 2018. In addition to the president, the two chambers of the National Congress of Paraguay , the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, as well as the provincial parliaments were newly elected. In addition, there were various elections at regional level and the election of 18 MPs from Paraguay for the South American internal market Mercosur .
Election results
The previous President Horacio Cartes and Vice President Juan Afara of the Colorado Party could no longer be elected, as the constitution only allows one term. The presidential election was won by Mario Abdo Benítez of the Partido Colorado , who defeated Efraín Alegre of the center-left alliance GANAR. The Colorado Partido also won the most seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. The new President and Vice-President took office on August 15, 2018, and their terms run until August 2023.
