Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez

The Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez (Arando Bermúdez National Park) is a national park in the Dominican Republic .
Geography and natural space
It is located in the Cordillera Central , covers an area of 766 km² and is home to the highest mountains in the Caribbean : the Pico Duarte ( 3098 m ), La Pelona ( 3097 m ), Loma La Rucilla ( 3039 m ) and the Yaque ( 2760 m ) m ).
The park is in western Hispaniola . The second longest river in the Dominican Republic and an important supplier of drinking water, the Río Yuna , has its source in the mountains of the Cordillera Central .
The Parque Nacional Armando Bermudez is located in the ecoregion of the Hispaniolan pine forests of the Tropical and Subtropical Coniferous Forest Biome .

A number of endemic or rare trees and bushes can be found in the region.
- Pinus occidentalis , endemic to the Hispaniola
- Pale Magnolia ( Magnolia pallescens ), endemic to the Hispaniola , IUCN Red List endangered species
- West Indian mahogany ( Swietenia mahagoni ) - endemic to the Caribbean and southern Florida
- Dominican butterfly bush ( Buddleja domingensis ) ( syn.Buddleja calcicola ), endemic to the Hispaniola
history
The park of the international IUCN category II was established together with the Parque Nacional José del Carmen Ramírez in February 1957. The long-time dictator of the Dominican Republic Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina designated the Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez to protect the sources of the Río Yaque del Norte and Río Yuna . The park is named after the businessman José Armando Bermúdez Rochet (1871–1941). As a tribute to the founder of J. Armando Bermúdez & Co., C. por A. Trujillo named the park after him.

The people living in the park largely respect the park and its importance in the management of scarce water resources. There are conflicts in the management of riparian vegetation and local fisheries. Ecotourism , especially hiking tourism, is very popular in the park and is used as a source of income for the local population.
