Parque Venâncio Ribeiro da Costa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parque Venâncio Ribeiro da Costa is a green area in the center of the Portuguese district town of Palmela .

history

The park was created at the beginning of the 20th century between the Castelo de Palmela and the historic city center. The initiator was the President of the Câmara Municipal Joaquim José de Carvalho , who wanted to improve urban life and - similar to the forests of Sintra and Buçaco - create a destination for tourists. The park was quickly adopted by the population.

It was later named after the pharmacist Venâncio Ribeiro da Costa († 1930), a great benefactor of the city.
