The party of the African Federation ( French : Parti de la Féderation Africaine , abbreviation: PFA ) was a political party in the West African republics of the Communauté Française .

history

The Party of the African Federation was the successor party to the Party of the African Union (PRA). Its founding congress took place in Dakar from July 1st to 3rd, 1959 . The Senegalese politician Léopold Sédar Senghor was the founder and chairman of the new party. Shortly before the independence of numerous French colonies in the " African Year " 1960, Senghor sought to create an African federal state, which he implemented in rudiments with the Mali Federation .

Like its predecessor party, the PRA, the PFA consisted of several regional member parties. These included the Union Progressiste Sénégalaise (UPS-PFA) from Senegal, the Sudanese Union (US-PFA) from French Sudan , the Sawaba (SAWABA-PFA) from Niger and the Parti Républicain de la Liberté (PRL-PFA) from Upper Volta . The break-up of the Mali Federation in August 1960 also meant the end of the African Federation Party.
