The Partidul Noua Generație - Creștin Democrat ( PNG-CD , German Party of the New Generation - Christian Democrats ) is a political party in Romania .

history

The formation was founded in March 1999 under the name Partidul Noua Generație . It was initially a party at the center of the political spectrum in Romania and was led by Viorel Lis , the former mayor of Bucharest .

In January 2004, George Becali took over the party chairmanship; he oriented the party according to his views ultra-conservative, nationalist and politico-religious. He is the undisputed leader of the party, which is completely personal to him.

Becali's statements are similar in content to those of Corneliu Vadim Tudor , the party leader of the Partidul România Mare ( Greater Romania Party ). Accordingly, the political positions of both parties are comparable. There was no collaboration, however, as Becali and Tudor fell out personally. After the parliamentary elections in 2008 , in which both parties failed to enter parliament, Becali and Tudor became closer; Becali made it into the European Parliament in the European elections on June 7, 2009 on the list of the Greater Romania Party.

In April 2006 the party took on its current name.

The PNG-CD denies Romania's involvement in the Holocaust during the Second World War. The PNG-CD was mentioned in 2006 in the International Religious Freedom Report of the US State Department because of the links that the party itself had consciously established with the traditions of the Iron Guard .

Election results

So far (as of 2008) the party could not achieve any sweeping election successes at the state level; in the parliamentary elections in 2004 and the elections to the European Parliament in November 2007, the five percent hurdle was not met. In opinion polls during 2007, the PNG-CD was able to record up to 18% of potential voters at times.
