The Partito Comunista Italiano (abbreviated PCI) is a party created in Italy in 2016 .

history

The PCI, which took the name of the Communist Party of Italy that existed from 1921 to 1991 , emerged in 2016 from the merger of the Italian Communist Party (PCdI) with parts of the members of the Partito della Rifondazione Comunista (PRC) and smaller groups.

After the founding congress, Mauro Alboresi was elected national secretary (Segretario Nazionale).

Political positions

In its fundamental documents, the PCI refers positively to the work and ideas of Karl Marx , Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin . It also emphasizes its closeness to the political and ideological legacy of the historical PCI, from Antonio Gramsci to Enrico Berlinguer , especially Antonio Gramsci and Palmiro Togliatti are emphasized.

The party is critical of the EU and the euro.

The PCI supports the policies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Chinese President Xi Jinping and the foreign policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She also takes the side of Nicolas Maduro with regard to Venezuela.

Election results

In the parliamentary elections in Italy in 2018 , the PCI ran as part of the left-wing alliance Potere al Popolo (PaP), which received no seats with 1.1% of the vote.
