history

PartnerRe was founded in 1993 on a Swiss initiative, initially as a special reinsurer for cover against natural disasters (under the impact of Hurricane Andrew in 1992). 1997 PartnerRe took over the French reinsurer Société Anonyme Française de Réassurances (SAFR), 1998, the reinsurance activities of the then new to Credit Suisse belonging Winterthur Group . In July 2009, PartnerRe announced that it would take over the Swiss-based reinsurer Paris Re (the former reinsurance division of Axa ) , which is based in Paris and Frankfurt, in two stages by 2010.

PartnerRe was ranked 12th worldwide in 2009. With the takeover of Paris Re, PartnerRe becomes the fifth largest reinsurer in the world in terms of equity, after Munich Re , Swiss Re , the reinsurance activities of the investment holding Berkshire Hathaway of billionaire Warren Buffett and Hannover Re .

In 2016, PartnerRe was taken over by Exor . A delisting took place in the course of the takeover . The company's shares were traded on the NYSE until the acquisition .
