Party drug

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As party drugs are drugs called that predominantly (at parties English. Party : Celebration) are consumed, especially in electronic music like Goa , Trance , House and Techno .

term

The term “party drug”, however, specifically only refers to the drug consumption de-ritualized in modern western civilization as part of a hedonistic way of life. In this respect, when the term “party drug” is mentioned, it is also communicated that the potential danger of the substances is underestimated due to poor education or carelessness.

history

Historically, in this context, reference should also be made to the hippie movement or rock music (in the case of the latter, the mystified habitus of a “rock star” in the sense of sex and drugs and rock and roll is particularly important ). However, these two subcultures can only serve as examples, because the connection between music (especially rhythm), trance and drugs is as old as human culture.

Substances

Under "party drugs" are mostly stimulating substances such as amphetamine (also called "speed"), methamphetamine , mood-enhancing or euphoric substances such as ecstasy (i.e. MDMA , MDA ) or GHB / liquid ecstasy and also hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD . Hallucinogenic drugs are used in a party context, however, in rather small doses. Cocaine is also one of the classic party drugs, but because of its particularly high price and a certain stylization as a "status drug" it occupies a special position. If the term is interpreted more extensively, alcohol can also be subsumed under the term party drug. Marijuana , respectively cannabis , tends not to be one of them, because although it is consumed at parties, it does not enable party-related behaviors such as uninhibited dancing, easier contact, etc. Many party drug users tend to use cannabis as an "after-party drug" to "smoke down"; This means, through the effects of cannabis, to reduce the stimulating effects of previously consumed substances, for example to find sleep or to generally “come down”, as it is called in the language of the scene.

As an analgesic, heroin is not to be counted among the party drugs, since its consumption refers to a different drug milieu and is usually hardly widespread in discos, although it can be found in mixed use with uppers .
