Pascual Ortega Portales
Pascual Ortega Portales (born December 5, 1839 in Santiago de Chile , † December 22, 1899 ibid) was a Chilean painter.
Ortega Portales studied from 1854 to 1864 at the Academia de Pintura with Alejandro Ciccarelli . In 1868 he received a grant from the Chilean government for a stay in Europe and studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Alexandre Cabanel and Hippolyte Taine . He also visited Italy, Spain, Belgium and Germany before returning to Chile in 1874. His paintings have been exhibited in Chile, Argentina and France, among others. At the Exposición Continental in Buenos Aires in 1882 he received second prize. Several of his works ( Napolitano , La Alsaciana , Retrato de Niño ) are in the collection of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes .
