Pass of Ambelos , Ambelos Pass or Seli Ambelou ( Greek Αμπέλος Αυχήν Ambelos Afhin = grapevine pass ; Greek Σελί Αμπέλου ) is an approximately 900 m high mountain pass in the north of the Lasithi plateau .
In the summer, the north wind Meltemi blows very strongly here, which is why 24 windmills were built for grinding grain during the Venetian period , which were in operation until the Second World War . Two of the now dilapidated mills have been restored. They had living rooms on the upper floor. If you follow the mountain ridge about 600 m to the east you will reach the archaeological site on Agios Georgios Papoura .
